how would you describe your style?

i would describe myself as a lifestyle photographer. the way i approach a photo session is very casual, fun, and laid back, and plays out almost as if there was going to be a feature on you in a magazine. i always send out a questionnaire getting to know you and your style so that the session can be tailored to you. i shoot on location only in places that are special to you. i strive to capture you in your photos, not just an image of you. whether it's your wedding day or any other day, i really try to capture who you truly are in a fun, fashionable way!

what should we wear?

well, for your wedding day, that's pretty obvious, but for portrait and engagement sessions, I usually recommend taking what you normally wear and stepping it up a notch. bright colors, fun accessories, and props are always a good combination. bring a change of clothes if you're undecided! rather than getting stuck in a one or two color rut, choose four or five and mix and match those! for kids, let them have a hand in choosing their outfit. if they love it, they're more likely to cooperate. the more color, the better! for women, shorts can be very hard to pull off unless they are longer. i typically recommend jeans, skirts, or dresses. high heels or wedges can help elongate legs, and can also help you stand taller naturally. all in all, bring out your unique personality in your clothing, accessories, and props. matching polos and khakis are never recommended, sorry.

what equipment do you use?

i use professional canon cameras and lenses, and professional lighting equipment. i have backups of all of my equipment just in case!

are you a member of any professional organizations?

yes, i am a proud member of the ppa, which is the professional photographers of america. i personally would not want to have my photos shot by anyone who was not affiliated with this organization because of the protection and help they offer not only the member, but also the member's clients. learn more at www.ppa.com. I also have a BFA in Photography from ASU.

i don't like having my picture taken-what do you recommend?

i ask you to relax and trust me. tension and nerves will show on your face and in your body. i might occasionally ask you to shake your arms and legs, take a deep breath, or do something crazy to get you to relax. just go with it! i promise it won't be lame-quick and painless is my motto! guys, i know you traditionally hate having your picture taken, but i try to do fun things in our session so that you don't get bored with it. when your fiance, girlfriend, or wife is filling out the questionnaire, don't forget to add your two cents!!!

how do we come up with a location?

before our session, i'll give you a little bit of homework to do. it will help me get to know you better and will give me great ideas for your session. i like to try to incorporate unique elements into every shoot i do! if there is a spot that holds sentimental value for any reason, or is a place you frequent, let me know because ANY place can be a great spot for photos. i also try to match the location to what you're wearing. if you decide on cool, urban clothes, you wouldn't want to be photographed in a grassy field because it just doesn't work together. really take a look at what part of yourself you want to portray in the photos, and we'll go from there! what do you want to remember about this exact moment in time? then, we'll capture it so you never forget.
